Pain

There is pain inside
There it is hiding out
Amongst happy thoughts
And cherished memories
But the pain is there
Behind closed curtains
Waiting to spring itself
From the prison you made
The prison which is your mind
And your aging body
This pain is ugly and dangerous
Because it comes with no warning
No bells or whistles
That announce that it is here
Because it has always been
Simply hiding away, deep
But now it is out
And all that you know
Is warped and withered
It crawls everywhere
And it has no planned stops
There are no tracks to guide it
It simply eats at you
Gnawing at what is flesh and bone
This deep pain is destructive
And highly flammable
One match and its over
The world might catch on fire
This pain we all feel
This pain we all know so well
Some master it better than others
Some can't even handle it
So they simply numb it
For as long as it will be held back
This pain is sad and pathetic
But it feeds on us all
We must fight it
We must force it to retreat
But how is the question
How do we deal with this demon
This pain that we all have
Hiding deep inside us all
Waiting like a vulture
To pick at bones and scraps
