Blackened Lagoons

I am no evil spirit
soaked in the taste of fine wine
and tattered letters
written to long lost lovers

but,

If I am the poet
then you are my verse
If I am the dreamer
then you are my dream

Here in the hallways
of such utter confusion
the verse and the dream
meet in a head on collision
shaking the sky from its roots
and blinding the sun of its visions

and,

My pain translates into your pleasures
and my heart releases its sacred treasures
into the depths of blackened lagoons
channeled out from the mouth of a salty river
sweetened by the tears of forgotten feelings

so,

If I am the poet
then you are the inspiration
from which all the words flow
If I am the dreamer
you help me paint the pictures
of better human natures

The poet and the dreamer
locked in a battle with desert lions
and fire breathing dragons
each trying to gain the upper hand
pouring blood, sweat, and tears
onto shimmering sand and stone
fighting for a place to call home
