The Apollonian

There is a mighty god of art
wandering the fabric of our realities
clashing consistently with his fellow
God Dionysus, always battling
a construct, a portrait, a dream
an illusion born out of the chaos
born out of the fragile pieces that we have glued
together around ourselves to define ourselves

Some call him the principle of individuality
a single man, in a rackety boat
fighting the waves of the turbulent seas
trying to stay alive, and adrift
amongst a chaos that seeks to tear him apart
yet he fights on, knowing that at any moment
the waves may swallow him whole,
but despite that he will not succumb to the terrors
of the storm and the deep underneath

Some call him a necessity
a structure needed to maintain
our sanities in a world without meaning
a creation man made, but understood
as being a joyful necessity
that allows man to create beauty
in a world that inherently has none

Some call him the master illusion
the great veil thrown over the world
so that it shimmers with rational and reason
so that our day to day lives may continue
so we do not break and shatter
with nothing left in our hearts and our minds

Some call him dangerous
a force of artistic expression that many
find to be real and true once they cross
the threshold of creation and believe
that indeed the illusion cannot be false
